Can we know by now how was the music of our aboriginal? Probably not, but today we have auxiliary sciences, such as organography and comparative musicology, which allow us to systematize this issue more favorably than they would have done our historians of past centuries.

INDIAN MUSIC

There are a number of observers and prints scattered among the remains of ancient chroniclers, along a few archaeological remains uncertain functionality that should sort and compare the methods and data we have today to get an idea, even very briefly, of what could be the musical praxis of our pre-Hispanic population. We believe that the result can not be negative, although insufficient.

Nevertheless, the computable material considerations requires some analysis and impossible to include in the confined space of an informative text , which is why we call the reader’s attention, which is critical unsatisfied on broader work in specialized journals.

Popular music studies has grown considerably over the last twenty years. This growth has gone hand in hand with the renewal experienced by the musicology since the mid-eighties, with the questioning of positivist scientist artistic canons and immutable, the product of the arrival of cultural studies, post colonial and gender to the musical field . No doubt the recent development of popular music studies are part of this renewal and one wonders to what extent, too, are because of it.

These studies, draw an interdisciplinary field that calls looks most relevant to the current musicology, but appear to constitute a threat to the very identity of the discipline, as Ramon Pelinsky is responsible to warn (2000: 297). However, at this writing has me convinced that musicologists are still specific beings, with some particular and relevant to say about music, human and cultural practices. This article seeks to determine the role played by the rapid growth of popular music studies, the last twenty years, the renewal of musicology. The strong interdisciplinary orientation of these studies, and epistemological demands facing the music musicology charged addressing a plurality of texts, may be on the basis of this renewal.

Latin American musicology has not escaped this process and, increasingly, has joined the field of popular music studies, which has contributed significantly to its epistemological renewal process.

To illustrate the core problems that Latin American musicology has addressed in the face of popular music, are considered the papers presented at the congresses of the Latin American branch of the International Association of Popular Music Studies conducted between 1997 and 2006 in various capitals of the region, including debates about genres of popular music, the theoretical frameworks used, and the relationship of this music with the culture industry.

The music is here every day, between us, but we soon comprehend and understand. Not to mention the traditional story, which until today is a fragmented history of superior music, not to mention a philosophy of music or make sound speculation, or teaching methods, or the sociology of relationships, or the technical … Should we take other turns to music, many laps, looking to see if it found something that deserves consideration in the music itself2.

Mexican singers

Finally it was decided to appear in his underwear on the beaches of Miami. After we proclaim to the world champions South Africa, the son of Julio Iglesias agreed to water skiing naked, thinking perhaps that should not come to do so.
